This volume in the 24 Frames series focuses on 24 key films from Scandinavia – Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland. Each national cinema is able to boast directors of worldwide renown, such as Ingmar Bergman, Carl Theodor Dreyer, Victor Sjöstrom and more contemporary filmmakers such as Lukas Moodysson, Aki Kaurismäki and the co-founders of the Dogme 95 movement, Lars von Trier, Thomas Vinterberg and Soren Kragh-Jacobsen. This book deals with the impact that these and other filmmakers have had on both their national cinema as well as the world of film and looks in detail at the styles, movements and influences from this region.
