JOHN COOK

Viennese by Choice, Filmemacher von Beruf

Michael Omasta

Canadian-born filmmaker John Cook single-handedly brought a brand of freewheeling auteur cinema to the 'Austrian New Wave' of the 1970s, yet is still to be discovered among international cinephiles. This volume contains a German-language section of essays, interviews and an annotated filmography, plus Cook's English autobiography, The Life, chronicling his life from childhood to his struggles as an independent filmmaker in 1970s Vienna.
