TOUCH OF EVIL
Rick Schmidlin
Touch of Evil has not lost any of its original power. More than fifty years after the original release, and a decade after the restoration to Orson Welles' directions, the bravura of this brooding story of rape, racism, corruption and the US-Mexican border drug trade, with the most suspenseful opening shot in film history, continues to astound and shock. Featuring Janet Leigh, Charlton Heston, Marlene Dietrich and Zsa Zsa Gabor, Welles' final Hollywood film is the last great statement in film noir. This book chronicles its efforts to reassemble a lost masterpiece, and analyses the enduring cult appeal of a film that has influenced generations of filmmakers.
