03 | SCIENCE FICTION CINEMA

From Outerspace to Cyberspace

Geoff King and Tanya Krzwynska
A concise and accessible introduction to one of the most important film genres in cinema history. This volume outlines the major themes of the genre and explores issues such as the meaning of special effects and the influence of science fiction cinema on the entertainment media of the digital age from lurid comic-book blockbusters to dark dystopian visions that work as cultural barometers of our times. The book concludes with an extensive case-study of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace.
